"The Katyn massacre of 1940 without a shadow of a doubt the crime of genocide, which was confirmed in February 1946.
1. The Soviets confirmed it during the proceedings of the International Court of Justice in Nuremberg, when they unsuccessfully tried to attribute the crime to Germany. Death of near to 22,000 Poles , including reserve officers, prison guards, police officers intelligence and counterintelligence officers and forest guards, was not only the drama of the victims and their loved ones. It was also destruction of the Polish elite (remarkable scientists, journalists, social activists, Olympians). It is enough to note here that Poles murdered by the NKVD in the spring of 1940 and buried in nameless grave pits in Bykownia, Kharkov, Katyn and Miednoje constituted about 30% of Poles with higher education. Criminals have never been judged, although their names have long been known. On the contrary, the authorities of the Soviet Union tried to hide the truth about the crime for several decades. After the war, however, Poles on emigration and the families of those murdered in the country fought for the truth. From the early 1950s, Americans also actively joined the campaign. Considering the above-mentioned arguments , we cannot forget about what happened in the spring of 1940 "- Speaker of the Sejm Elżbieta Witek .
